City Election

Four of the five candidates the Coalition endorsed for City Council in the November 2 municipal election were successful in keeping their seats. They are Kevin McKeown, Pam O'Connor, Terry O'Day and Gleam Davis.

Robert Holbrook, our fifth endorsed candidate, was sixty-one votes ahead of his closest challenger when this newsletter went to press.

These incumbent Council members demonstrated a commitment to continuing a high level of City services and have maintained a progressive attitude toward the tough budget decisions facing Santa Monica.

Measure Y (1/2 cent sales and use tax) that the Coalition endorsed also passed, with over 60% of the vote. Measure Y will protect City services which could be jeopardized by state raids of our municipal budget, and it is vital to maintaining the level of service that our City deserves.

We look forward to working closely with the City Council to ensure that Santa Monica remains a great place to live.

Why YOU should join the CSMCE Political Action Committee

Our collective futures: Currently there are petitions and movements to change PERS retirement that could directly affect all of us.

Strength in numbers: The strength of our Coalition rests within our membership. The more members we have - the more resources we have to impact the issues which are import to us.

Wages, hours, and working conditions: It is well documented that workers whom are organized, earn more and enjoy better benefits.
